I need a main jet washer '79 XS Special

I've been working on my '79 trying to diagnose why #2 isn't firing, and I've noticed that #1 is running hotter than #3 and #4. Just from feeling the pipes mind you, so rather subjective. I pulled the carb rack and found #2 float was gummed up and stuck, so I freed it up and put the rack back in. No go. Pulled the rack again and tore it down to clean it propper and found the main jet was plugged on #2 and the washer from #1 jet is flat out missing!

Anyone have a spare they are willing to part with? It's obvious to me that the last person in the carbs was a bit hamfisted, but I think I can get everything else to work just fine.

I would think you might find one at a good hardware store, one of the old local places is more likely than a Lowes or Home Depot for that.

I should think you might want to go through all of them for cleaning if one was that gummed up. Certainly would pull the slide and needle and push out the emulsion tube on that carb for sure, the small holes are bound to be pretty gummed up if the main jet was.

I've got all 4 torn down to the base housing and going thru a thurogh cleaning. Thats how I noticed the washer was missing and the main nozzel was twisted and not even seated on the pin. I don't know if washer thickness and material makes a difference or not. I guess I could just make a set of 4 on the CNC out of brass and just reset the float heights back to spec to compensate for any thickness difference.

Well, I would certainly try to stick to brass, which is why I suggested a local HW store.

As to size, well, I hear it does matter. I would be more concerned with thickness than anything else. As long as it fits I would not be to concerend with diameter or hole size. If you have a CNC and brass on hand, heck I would certainly make one then, you have one to copy from, so should be fairly simple.

I'll take ya up on one, but since it's to late to toss it in the bike/car, I'll have to jump over the hill this weekend. Might be a nice Saturday ride up thru Santa Cruz and up thru Pescadero for some bread.
