    Update...from hell

Well everything was going so smoothly i should have know something was bound to happen. The carbs were prett much done, I was just setting the float height and idle mixture screws for the last time, the last carb I was unscrewing the mixture screw (and no it was not too tight, it was the exact same as the others, I promise!!) when I pulled it out the very tip was not there

Long story short I tried every method on this forum and finally the FOURTH machine shop I went to said they could get it out for me...I am still waiting to see the results. I pray i wont be shopping for a new carb, I may have stretched the hole a tad bit but as long as they dont mess it up I should be good. THe break was so stinking clean on the screw could it have been a manufacture defect? I got them from georgefix on ebay. And I was being so careful with them.

i had a hard time getting the oil pan off but once I did i realized that whoever changed the oil last jammed the drain plug and stipped the threads on the pan...got a new pan.

So new question...which carb synchronizer would be the bmy gest for the cheapest? (dont know anthing about these)

the cheap one is most likely too good to be true....

also I checked out my gears on the tranny and they looked really good.Didnt see any wear hardly, but maybe I could ust move the washer to make sure the dogs don't wear out? Would it be easier? I don't know..this whole mixture screw thing has me spooked.

Not too surprising... You may have just cranked it down a tiny bit too hard and plugged the tip in the hole. It's a rather common problem. PITA, but rather common. There is a thread going right now about a DIY carb synch. One guy said he put it together for less than $20. It involves rubber tubing and ATF. Seems really easy IMO if you don't already have access to a synch tool. much better than paying the big bucks for a tool you won't use much at all.

On the Motion-Pro you are looking at, the price for the Replacement fluid only. The little oblong box lists all of the parts and the complete unit. About $75.00 if I remember.
One more to lust after. Not so bad now the dollar is catching up to the pound.

Not having dug into the tranny but having read about the washer move in Bob Jones' book it sound like it's the best insurance.
I'm sure there are many here who have done just that. Given no wear it would seem to be the prudent move.
        Good luck

As to the mixture screw, yeah, that can happen. Basically when you tighten them, do it first off the bike and look for the tip to show in the hole. If you see it and feel any increase in resistance at all STOP.

As to the gears, doing the washer swap requires you to pull the shaft of gears out. IMHO, once you have it that far down, I'd go ahead and dremmel the dogs and slots to. The hardest part of the procedure is getting the gears out and back in. From what you have described, and the milage, you may not have any problems for another 20k miles, if you ride it easy and don't hammer on it much, you may never have an issue.
