Now I am worried about you. 7500 in 5th is pretty damn quick.
First you post about lack of brakes then you ask how fast you were going

it was last summer, the brakes were fine then - I mean decent, I prepped the bike nice for a vegas run
I just couldn't resist, turns out the bike handled tip top, but the road was not the greatest
not bad for a salvaged ride (found it in an alley, PO crashed in 93)

I'm not agreeing with that. By that math, then at redline, you'd only be going 129. Redline is supposed to be right @ 140 for these bikes. I think he was well into the 120's, but don't have the math to prove it.

according to cycleworld mag our bikes are good for 132 at 8000 RPM red line so at 7500 it comes out to 123.75MPH. which as suggested earlier is enough to make your doctor and your insurance person think about raising your rates. if you really want to know just blow by a cop at speed then pull over and consult. My experience is that they are quite chatty when they get to see big numbers

and since owning a modified G, (85mph speedo) I've thought a couple times about changing to a 160mph guage ..... but I never do. I don't think I wanna' know...

i brought a 160 mph guage for my 80g, the 85 mph that is just not right. this is a motorcycle not a moped. sometime i feel the need for speed, and i gots to know.
I understand the reason they got rid of the 85mph speedometer was because people were arguing in court that they were only going 85 when they were going much faster. How could they know how fast the were going if their speedometer said 85???? I think the best they were getting charged for was 20 over... That was with the auto speedometers at the time. Sure the bikes were the same thing.

sorry but, I haven't rode in a month the sun came out after my last thread and I realized that I was wrong NOT the first time but the ride did get my head straight... with our red line 8500 the speed at 7500 would be 116.47.

I think we've been over this topic ad nauseum in the past but here goes again. The standard gear reduction equation is:
Depending on your rear tire calculated speed will vary somewhat. I used the published numbers for a Bridgestone BT45:
A 130/90-16 on a stock geared Eleven will peg the redline of 8500 rpm at a calculated 132.6 mph. But's that what it "should do". I've had 5 of these beasts. In my experience the fastest I've ever been able to push a stock Eleven was 127 to 128 indicated...that was a '79 SF in pristine condition and I was going down a very slight grade...with no wind. I've never been able to push any stock Eleven to redline in 5th gear. They're great old bikes....but they just don't make enough steam to redline in 5th gear. Your mileage may vary and probably does. But.......I don't think one of these old (stock) Elevens would hit 140 if you threw out of an airplane.
Now where's the popcorn...this should prove entertaining.
