    hmmmm.......

re: I don't think one of these old (stock) Elevens would hit 140 if you threw out of an airplane.

    That sounds like a challenge.

      117mph, got it

it was a dry no wind desert day, the bike was freshly tuned with about 24k and it felt like it could give more but I was getting a weird patch of ice feeling

I don't look at klonk the same way now, and I lost the envy to prove my ugly duckly to whoever mistakes it for a 500cc

it's just a damn sleeper cruiser that looks like miss daisy's

You may have a problem that I had. Put the bike on the center stand, then try to move your rear tire side to side. If there's any play, you need to adjust your swing arm under those shiny chrome caps in the frame.

I don't think one of these old (stock) Elevens would hit 140 if you threw out of an airplane.

I agree. I think we should strap ol' elevenator to a bike and throw him out of a plane and see. You're brand new here... how could anything be ad nauseum to you??

          AND.....

I have that video from the 2007 Talihina rally. I know where I started accelerating and where I left off for exactly one minute of the video. I went back and measured the distance later and it was a tad over two miles. Doing the math I AVERAGED something like 122 mph even though I started out doing @ 65 or 70. This was on a stock XJ except for the final drive mod.. and I had the early 78 cams in that motor.. which sucked on the low end, but I think were better on top.

I have the 1179 motor now and have been unofficially clocked at 135.. but I realize these old speedos can be off.

So... not trying to prove or disprove anything.. just saying that I think it's possible, but have no hard proof.

Hehehehe...I like your style...kinda crude...but to the point.

Regarding the ad nauseum coverage of the topic of gear reduction computations there is more than enough at this website.

A search reveals these threads that deal with the subject of gear reduction:

I'm sure there's more out there somewhere. Ya just gotta dig a little.

Now that would be interesting to see. A quick bit of googling says the terminal velocity of a skydiver is in the range of 120mph, unless s/he tucks in, wears a fancy suit, etc. That being said, a full dressed 'H might fall into a similar category with that big 'ole barn door of a fairing and tall windshield. It might go a bit faster if you could find some way to keep it pointed straight down.

I would guess a nekkid Special might go a bit faster, given the streamlining of a smaller tank and rear wheel, and round headlight...

But a special wouldn't ever make it down due to the small gas tank.

I hit 125 before my final drive mod and IIRC... I was around 7500... There was another 1100 with us that was going well over that speed... again... and I'll bet was doing every bit of 135 or better... again...

Of course, I never go over 85 anymore... just like Bigfoot said...

Was it an XJ with a fairing, cooler most likely strapped to the backseat, and a madman riding it?

Doing the math I AVERAGED something like 122 mph even though I started out doing @ 65 or 70.
With one hand, the other was holding the camera. I know that I had to be doing quite a bit over 100 and you left us like we were standing still. 122 is a very conservative estimate IMHO.

About the 85mph speedo thing and cops. When the police man pulled me over on my xs850. He came up to me with a crazed look in his eyes and just said how fast do you think you were going!, I said 85. He said does your speedometer work? It was all downhill from there, Police just don't think anything is funny.
