Anyone ever measure 'new' springs for a 78E? Clymers says 19.82" (about 19 13/16") is the worn out limit and springs should be replaced. Mine are 19 3/4" just a 1/16" low. dwales offered me his but they are 24".

Added 1" spacers and it was everything I could muster to get the caps back on. Stiffened up a little, still not sure if the dampener is working or not, or if I just have worn springs. Seals are not leaking, just too much dive. Acts like there is no oil, but I know the correct amount is in there. Now with the 1" spacers it dives less.

78-81 Std and 79-81 Specials take the same springs, but the specials take a 3.5" spacer, just as jimg1au stated. So if anyone has one of these and has the opportunity to measure their springs, I would appreciate the info. Risky, I don't think I can fit Dave's, can you measure yours and I'll get back to you after I ride this weekend. I may just go for the new Progressives, let you know.

    Thanks guys!
