i found a poly insert that fits nice i had to resize the outside of the bushing a little i used a carbide bit in a die grinder but a dremmel will work fine i had to burn the rubber off the old mounts but since they were so old it was easy the poly that i found are energy susp a-arm bushings for a 1988 dodge D-50 the number on the bushing is 2035 as they say a picture is worth a 1000 words

energy suspension the bushing is poly urethane and you can get it in diff colors i buy lots of bushings on ebay all the time i have buckets of urethane bushings so every time i need a bushing i just go through the buckets and is seems like i always have what i need and since they put a number on the bushing i wright down what i use it for

            Another way

I cut a peice of shrink tube to the proper length and shrunk it on the old bushing. Took up the play and made a snug fit again.

The rubber mounts are there to dampen and isolate the engine vibrations. Why would one want to transfer vibration to the frame?

Same reason they have vibrating beds in those hourly rate hotels?

I think the point is to help support the frame. Maybe Chop will chime in and tell us if his aluminum mounts made a difference in that area.

As with all things, motor mounts are a compromise. Softer mounts reduce vibration to the frame, but allow the engine to 'flex' a bit. This causes handling issues; the XS11 has sometimes been described as having a 'hinge' in the frame, lessening the quality of handling due to to-soft mounts. Solid mounts will improve handling by making the engine/frame combo more rigid (like 1 piece) but decreases rider comfort by transmitting more vibration into the frame. The OEM mounts are designed more toward rider comfort than handling, but this impression may be due to having old mounts!

I like the idea of finding good replacement engine mounts. One hopes that the newer technology bushings will improve handling without increasing objectionable vibration. This is an excellent tip.

i also did the xs 750 diff swap along with the poly motor mounts i have replaced rubber mounts/bushings in all my cars and bikes for the last 25 years i think the i is far better than the rubber counter parts the vibe is so small that after 1/2 months you don't notice it any more the diff swap to the xs 750 is a 5/600 rpm drop per gear the rpm diff will make up for the poly mounts ........
