  • XJ Rear Mastercylinder

I have had nothing but problems lately with my rear M/C. I have tore it apart a couple times and polished up the piston and cleaned the O-ring and the groove it sits in. I have cleaned the spooge hole MANY times, yet I continue to have inrtermittent problems with the brakes not releasing all the way. So I went to my parts bike to check out and see how bad that one looked. Hmmm.. The caliper actually looks better than mine, and the M/C?? What's this? No proportion valve? It looks different! Apparently the previous owner had installed an XS M/C. John and I had looked at this and discussed it before, and it appeared the mounting tabs would have to be cut off and re-welded. Maybe this one is an aftermarket?

Anyway.. got the M/C, line, and caliper all swapped out.The XJ's M/C is a 3/4" and this one is only a 1/2", but it locks up the rear tire on command easily. My question is.. the XJ's M/C has two wires coming out of it for a brake fluid level sensor. Can I make a pigtail wire and just connect these two wires to turn off the brake light on my dash, or was there some sort of resistor in this and it will short it out if I do it that way?

      Checked the wiring diagram

      Hey trbig,

I checked the diagram in my factory service manual and I found that both those wires are just in line with the front mc wires. No resistors, relays or anything else in that circuit.
Since my clutch switch was broken, I just taped the two wires seperately with electrical tape and have had no probs.
