      Choke or No Choke

Is that like in choke your chicken or choke your XS? I believe .032 is the correct gap for your plugs...............in the XS but your chicken is optional.

I must admit, women like that can create a feeling of inadequacy even in a man such as myself.

I used some Bosch Platinum 4+ for a while. While the make a big difference in small cars and my Toyota PU, I didn't notice anything in the XS. I will give them a second chance once I get the GM DIS system going.

Back in the early 70's I spent too much time at the Naval base doing 25 mph with my '70 K-1 750 honda. It was a hell of a bike, but it didn't like slow, it would load the plugs up right quick. I tried several heat ranges in NGK and never seemed to solve the problem. Get the plug hot enough not to load up at 25 and would burn them up on the freeway. I switched to a new Champion plug made for bikes. Problem solved. It ran clean at low speeds and correct at hiway speeds.
There in was my expirence with plugs and heat range. I run the standard NGK for the TimeMachine without any problems or complaints. In the summer that is, and 100 miles + per day.

                Plugs..............................

I used the BP6ES units from NGK until I modded the engine - I found that the plugs were only lasting a few hundred klms (apparently higher compression kills plugs?)
and have since used NGK Iridium BPR6EIX - these units really last thousands of klms.

I use NGK Iridiums as well. Just because 2 sets should outlast the bike.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

I was using iridiums as well, until i replaced them
with standard plugs and it took away a knock i had
                    at 4-4500rpm under load.
its worth a try if you have a spare set of standard ngks.

                    Craz,
are you using the iridiums thats in the engine thats knocking?

Yes I am. I put them in last summer.

Easy to put the standards back in and see what it does.

I put my used spark plugs in a tube sock, you know, just in case there's a riot or stampede at Walmart.

I use the e3 spark plugs...but only after the ones i have finally quit working...I mean why buy a new one when the old ones work fine...but when i finally replace them i buy e3 they are more expensive but they have a lifetime warranty guaranteed to spark every time for life...can't really beat that...and if i've used them in something and i sell the vehicle i pull the plug put a stock ngk back in and keep my e3...never had a problem, including when used in any of the racing quads i've had over the years...that is the one thing i have replaced before necessary for racing...

For anyone wondering the model number is E3.34 and is a a .032 gap... and is around the $4-$6 range...

Definitely a fatter, healthier spark with Iridium plugs on my bike. That and 3 ohm Dyna Coils. Huge difference. I wouldn't use a standard plug again after trying the Iridium ones.......

The iridiums do work great by all reports with aftermarket coils. However by most reports they work rather poorly with the stock coils because of their wider gap and the inability to change the gap with the brittle nature of the material preventing changing the gap causing fouling with the lowing voltage levels of the stock coils.
