  • Rear shock absorber adjustment

Hi,I have a 1980 xs eleven special and it has adjusters on both sides of the rear shock, they have numbers.I am about 200 lbs and my wife is about the same. I guess my question is : The lower the number the stiffer or vice versa?? or does somebody know the best settings for this application?

      shock adjustment

More weight, higher the number. The spring preload can be adjusted too at the bottom of the shock.

I know the XJ shocks are different, but I'm about 250+ (Depending on before or after I eat!.. lol) It's a bit stiffer ride.. but I play more than most I think. I don't want a smooth soft cruising feeling.. I want to feel all the bumps in the road. I don't know what pre-load it would equal.. but I keep about 40psi in my rear shocks and the dampener on 4. I've bottomed out a few times on lesser settings...that hurts... but you probably aren't supposed to jump these bikes either.. lol.
