    It could be worse.



    Actually my very first bike ever was a 78 XS750. The bleeder valve was snapped off on the front caliper which ussually led to the front brake locking up the longer I rod eit and used it but, as I was going down a steep hill toward a light that was red with cars waiting and cars turning out of the intersecting street, the brake gave out, no front brake.

    After I bouced up the curb onto the sidewalk and landed somehow keeping it up right I got it stopped with the rear brake and quietly went to change my pants. Do NOT want to repeat that!

      Actually if one caliper falls off the piston that caliper will be pushed out and
      you would have no front brakes because you wouldnt have enough breke fluid to work the other side..

        If you think about it, that bolt doesn't really bear much of a load. The fork tube absorbs all of the force of braking. The bolt just basically holds everything in place and keeps the caliper centered.
