I found the shop...its called Action Sports Cycle Suzuki/Yamaha in Alliance Ohio
Ok Thank you,I 'll keep that info at hand,I have a feeling it may become useful : )
Thank you for the rough Idea on hours TopCat. The 625 was just for the starter button & breaks,,,, labor Total he gave me for what u described.....
Prom will probably tell you that at $50.00 hr bike mech rates minimum, pulling the cams and head, doing valve job, ring job, installing again, timing, plus the brake work, etc., that's about 12 hours worth
...... comes to $1500 .. we orig agreed on 1200 which included parts....but breaks ,starter button were an extra. He said 275 on carbs. I'm not disputing that part..... but 625 for breaks & starter button is ridiculous........even trying to charge me twice for gasket set to justify the 625....... feel like am generous at 225 for front caliper rework & for poppin in a new start button that i bought...i also bought the gaskets for front breaks, that 625 is just labor.......
if confusing. total bill is $2100
rings 320+tax
gaskets $99
machine work $180
2100 - say 650 w/oil etc = 1500 labor
QR tell him he can keep it for that .You can buy a real nice bike for that.He is a thief.$1000 would be too much.If you agreed on 1200 ,he already added in the what-ifs.
Typical "endgame" scenario of "customer" versus "mechanic. You have options. Mechanic has options. If I'm right, then the clock is ticking and "he wants his money." If you wanna go "tactical" then...
QRfan...for $2100 you could buy my '81 XS1100 special..it is turnkey and in beautiful condition...it doesnt need a thing...ofc i doubt you want to give up your bike. But the point is... this is a ridiculous amont of money for the kinda of work being done to your bike.I've long since decided to keep the '81 and my '82 and my '95 Honda...but I gotta find some work soon(picture me on my knees praying to the Lord)

The guy is trying to hose you big time.
$625 for brakes and button is ridiculous. You supplied the parts, so 12.5 hours?
3 hours max. 2.5 for the brakes.
Carbs are a 2 hour job + parts.
You are not obligated to pay for his (lack of ) education.
Clean your tank . install fuel filters then clean your carbs properly, should take you about 5 hours for the above. Then sir you coulda saved taking them off and on 10 times

Ha!
It was...... complicated.
I was in no position to have the tank boiled out, which may have been sufficient to the problem.
I won't bore with details, nor derail the thread any more than it has been.
In five hours, I can do the carbs, take a shower, and still hit happy hour in time for the taco bar.
