Ok so I'm back from the dead... Ive been working on my car so yea.. I was whating on the painter..
so here is waht i got so far.. I just back together again.
some probs..
cylinder one wont run.
I'm getting spark on all four. I think its the carb.
I need to sync and adjust A/F ratios. I started it today and it stayed in the 4K. I think its too lean and the butterflys need to me adjusted I'll get to it manyana..




















If you look carfully you can see the marbilization.

I used it on my pips and it stunk for a couple of days.

yeah the engine will cure itself with regular use. Before it fully cures it will smoke and stink ALOT ehhehe

dham you guys have done some nice arss painting..
mine looks like crap.. I've been waiting on the tanks and tail for a while thats why I have not been on here..
I've been busy turbocharging my eclipse.
i just spent a crap load of money on my car. i feel like I need to get this bike done so I can sell it.
i'll see how I feel about the bike when Im done.

I have an old oven in my workshop and I have been baking everything that I have sprayed at 150°C / 300°F for one hour.

I haven't had any problem with warpage or sleeves dropping out of the barrels. Only problems have been that the crankcases don't quite fit in the oven so you need to keep rotating them to keep the heat even

BTW. I have been using PJ1 gloss black for everything

I used VHT on my FJ engine and just let the engine temp cure it...
That was a few years ago and it's still holding up very well...

you dont have to heat or bake the vht painted engine- once you run the bike the engines heat will cure the vht paint.

and painting an engine doies not make it dissapate or hold more heat in .

not sure at what temp the head would warp at,
but you'd be sweet putting it in the oven, itll stink
so dnt know what your wife will think of that. :-)
You can install the head if you let it dry for a few days,
perhaps leave it in the sun,
but the paint will be soft and can scratch easily. The engine heat would then cure the paint.

Curing High Temp Paint

Onthe VHT High Temp paint can, it says that I will need to cure the paint by cooking it in an oven at 250, 300 and some much higher temp consecutively.

I know that aluminum warps when you heat it. The question is at what temperature does is warp. Has anyone else "cooked" their engine? and what did your wife have to say about a "XS roast" in her oven?

What will happen if I don't cook it? My wife is not really keen on the idea.

You know,
All our bikes have paint on the engine.Its clear ,so it wont oxidize.So I dont think color will hurt anything as long as you dont put a 1/4" thick on it.

what I did to prep for paint was presure wash the engine to get all the 30 years of crud it had on it. them I let is dry and used acidtone to wipe it down and then used high heat primer.. then paint
I'll have to test for temp problems after i get the bike back on the road.

Painted Engine

Cool, I am going to paint the engine. Any tips? Light Coating versus heavy? Prep secrets? Special prayers for the occassion? etc...

My engines are painted with 1200F ceramic paint, aluminum color, not black. No problems for me with the engine overheating. It gets very hot in my area too.

I am painting the frame an aluminum color with cast iron grey tank and sides. I am thinking that a black engine would make it all pop? But living in 110 degree weather, I need all of the cooling ability I can get.
