    Master Cylinder Reservoirs

Hello, I need to find new reservoirs for my XS1100SG, front and rear. If there are non available, can I use different m/c? I don't want to order the rebuild kits until I can find reservoirs. They are both very brittle. Thanks, Stacy

    Might be a start.

Maybe someone here has had some input on these.

I'll be watching one this myself as the PO of my F figured that it needed plenty of sunshine and weather. My masters are tired as well.

I looked around on the net last night and I believe I can find something for the front. My problem is the rear. The ones on eBay don't look any better than the one I have. I did a little searching on this site and saw that someone had replacement reservoirs listed sometime back.

I got a rear master cylinder off of an '81. It doesn't have the same style reservoir as my '80 one does. Will this still work? Looks like bolting up is not a problem.

Maybe the one I got is not for an '81. It doesn't have the plastic reservoir, it only has a cap.

Yeah - the guy didn't spell cylinder correctly or he might've had more bidders... He sold the whole thing for what you'd have to pay for just a rebuild kit.

                          Magnum,

From my understanding any front brake master cylinder will work as long its for a dual front caliper, has proper bolt hole, I think 10mm, and fits 7/8th bars. Ive been looking myself and what I have found is the ones with the sight glass and not the all clear reservoir like on the XS. If you find front and rear let me know.

Mine has full black (painted) aluminum with a tiny window for the front, and full black with no window for the rear. Isn't that how all the XS's are made? Or is that only because mine is a Midnight?

You're close. It should have 5/8" or 16mm bore for dual disk brakes. It's 10 or 12mm is for single disk. Most bikes also have 7/8" bars but Harleys and some cruisers have 1" diameter bars so most dual disk Japanese mastercylinders will work. If you get one from some other bike, you can also loose the left hand thread mirror mount.

I have a very nice looking Kaw Ninja mastercylinder I was going to use but it doesn 't have a mirror mounting hole. I'll probably get one from Parts'N more when they come back in stock. Mike's XS is out of them too.
