  • Help Unlinking XJ Brakes

I have been involved in brake upgrades on my XJ . I have a new front master from mikesxs.com and want to change the linked brake setup to the conventional one . I have had trouble getting good SS lines but am still trying . The front discs are fairly easy to convert with two equal length hoses . The rear is another matter . Please share your experience with this conversion . In other words ...HELP

P.S. I wish I had never started this because it worked well the old way .

I took the fitting off the line comin out of the equlizer valve and cut the end off it soldered it shut and put it back in to block the system . Then only the rear brake was working on the rear MC. That MC is made to run 2 Calipers so be eazy on the rear brake after you do this . It will lock up with very little pressure and thats what i wanted .

        Alex,
Have you considered swapping out the rear master for an XS master? I have a spare here if you want it.
It will likely need a kit but you are welcome to it.

The XS m/c won't mount up to the spots on the frame that the XJ does. Actually.. it will, but the angle would be all wrong. You'd have to cut the mounting points off the frame and re-weld them in the right position for it to work.

            rear ok ?

I've had a weekend of using one front caliper and the rear caliper alone . Actually its almost the same as before . I'm getting used to it . I never had much rear brake with the linked system anyway . I may leave it as is to avoid having to get used to a sensitive rear brake and possible accident . When both front calipers are working together ,It may take some getting used to so one thing at a time .
