I have been riding my 1982 XJ1100 Maxim for about 2 weeks now trying to work the bugs out of it since it has been parked most of its life. I has 16,200 miles on it. I have put just over 60 miles on it trying to get these carbs cleaned out without removing the little beasts. Finally they run fine and now I am having trouble with the turn signals. Starting yesterday, I have to hold the switch to whichever signal I want to use the whole time I want them to blink. As soon as I release they shut off. Can I circumvent the automatic shutoff and be able to manually shut them off when I push the button "down on the XJ". I bought this bike because it was an inexpensive means of having a streetbike once again. If I have to buy an expensive automatic gadget to straighten this thing out my bargain won't be as great a bargain. 2nd gear seems normal at least for now.
Also, is there somewhere I can get a seat cover for this 82 XJ1100. I see all sorts of other bikes but can't find the Maxim seat cover. I would like to keep it from looking recovered with a smooth vinyl and retain the textured pattern similar to what it has.
