El cheapo filter mod (my version)

I got my hands on a set of the K&N knock off filters. I have seen posts about the rubber insert closing off the jet ports. I also found the filters fell off the rubber piece too easily when installed.

Here is what I came up with. I bet you are all jealous of my stupendous phortagrafical skillz.

Too a spare airbox and removed the tubes:

I cut the tubes just aft of the retaining groove:

Removed the rubber insert from the pod filters:

Crammed the tube into the pod filter. It is a chore, but it will go. Much more snug than the rubber insert included with the filter.

Noticable difference in power. Nothing earth shattering, but there is a boost. I also found a breather filter that looks similar to these at Oreilley's, for about $10. Not bad for less than $50

That is a really good idea, I went to the garage and pulled out the old air box. I pulled the tubes out and noticed they looked like velocity stacks, I might just install them like that, just kidding! Here is another use for velocity stacks.

I was thinking of making some breast pumps out of them. SWMBO reminded me she is fixed and we won't have no more babies. I guess she doesn't get the point of experimental mods.

I'm done! I was going to get the XS K&N look-a-like, but that can wait now.

I had to adjust the idle down some to make up for the air increase.

I just used your idea to do the same thing to my new cheap-o pods, and it worked like a charm.

                Thanks for the great idea!

Been getting some time on it. Top end leaned out. Had 110 jets, the local shop only had two 112.5s and two 117.5s. I put the bigger ones in the center cylinders, until I get some full sets. Bike is running better than ever before. Feels like it'll pull stumps in fifth gear.
