  • paint exhaust?

My header pipes are blued, rusty and just looking old. I have new pipes but in front of that looks like crap. Has anyone painted headers? Anything special I need to do? i was thinking, sand them down to get all the rust specs off as well as give something for the paint to adhere to. I know there is high temp paint, as well as stove paint so i was wondering if it is something others have tried and can tell me which works better. I just want something flat black.

Ridinghard - there are a number of posts that cover painting exhausts. A search on header pipes should take you to 'em.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Flat black will be the easiest to find in a high-temp paint. You're on the right track with sanding them down to get rid of the rust and to get something for the paint to bite onto. The last time I was looking, I found some BBQ paint that was cheap and worked pretty good.

        header paint

I use the Dupli-Color 1200 degree ceramic black. Works well even if the prep job isn't that good. Available at auto parts stores.
