    Middle&Final Gear oil

    Hi
I put Pennzoil gear plus gl-5 sa-8--w-90 in a year ago.
It was a nice gold color.I have gone about 3000k since then.
I checked it last nite and it is starting to go black in color.
Is it time for a change?

Since the season is almost over for us northern people. If it were me... I would make changing the gear oil part of my winter maintenance.

In the links section there was a reference to an online manual in there. I don't remember the recommended change duration from my manual, (I just changed my M/FD oil.) but it is in there.
      Hope the link works: http://www.sendspace.com/file/0hrf4c

        mid drive oil

When in doubt, throw it out. I change my mid + final drive oils every 5K. 85W90 is the recommended oil.

You are probably OK as long as the level is right. It is not uncommon for the stuff to turn colors. Since it is in a closed system and not subject to combustion blowby and acids like engine oil it should not degrade as fast. I change mine every Spring when I do a major 'go through everything' tuneup.

I use 85/90 full synthetic for the gear drives.
