  • Slips out of 3rd gear

I found a 79 special for sale ,the guy wants $500 for it but say it slips out of 3rd when he gives it . Does that sound like a clutch issue or tranny ? Other than that it looks good 4 into 1 new tires nice paint.

Slip out to neutral or grind like slipping?? Might be a determining factor

      slip

If it was a clutch issue, you'd probably have a problem in other gears also. JMHO. I've had 3'rd go out at 50K miles. Chances are sooner or later you'll have to go thru the tranny anyway.

$500 CAD! tell the guy you did some research, It's a very costly transmission fix and try to talk him down. If he won't come down, buy it anyway, it's a great deal. On the outside chance that the bike is 50% shot, it's worth more than that as parts.
Oh yea, my clutch started slipping when I goose it hard in second. Parts on order...thanks Andreas!!

          Hey James,

I don't know, sounds pretty serious, maybe you should have me go over and look at it for you.

          Been out riding much?
