  • Mounting saddlebags - turn signal hole

I'm mounting a pair of Vetter saddlebags on my '78 Std. and I need to use the turn signal mounting holes. It's a large diameter hole with a rubber bushing in there for the turn signal that allows the turn signal to absorb shock. There's a large steel washer on the back of the bushing behind the frame. I'm not sure if I should leave the rubber bushing in there and mount the bracket for the bags to it or not. On one hand it would give the bags some shock absorption, but it's a little worrisome because the bags/bracket moves a little. I'm just not sure if it's secure enough. Anyone dealt with this before? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Regards,

On my '82, I've got the vetter side bags. Mounted thru turn signal holes.
I just left the rubber grommets in. Large washer front and back of hole bolted up to bracket. Works well for me. No danger of bracket dislodging itself. Have run like this for 8 years with no worries

On both of our '81 H models with the full Vetter package, the carriers for the saddlbags are bolted through the signal mounting location without any rubber.
