    Go with PoDs

    Hi,
I had the ole gas in the airbox routine so I went with pods and changed my jet size 2 numbers bigger. Now if I have a sticking float I know which one it is and it's a quick fix!
I put a small filter on the breather pipe and routed it under the Battery box.

It's been working good for me.

      Hey Pastor,

That's right, the blow by gases come to the air box and then to that fancy plenum device that feeds into the throats of all 4 carbs, AFTER the filter. Remember, the air comes into the inner zone of the filter, and then flows outwards into the airbox. The carb vent tubes and the blow by gas tubes are ALSO after the filter....unfiltered.

And the blow by gases are NOT just unburnt fuel vapors, but also are vaporized OIL mixed in with it, and it was probably the combination of vaporized OIL and blow by gases that later condense when they hit the small cool orifices of his carbs, eventually clogging them up!

I have an 81 SH, put 4-1 pipes on it shortly after I got it, never rejetted. THEN after my topend rebuild/big bore, went with Indy filters, rejetted for the combination, and it runs quite well IMHO!

        Thanks, TC.
I was thinking backwards! Air coming into the outside of the airbox/filter and flowing in. Duh. I get it now. The PO drilled my airbox in the wrong place. I've got to seal those holes and put some in the right place. If one has so much blow-by that it's gumming up the carbs, isn't it time for (at least) some new rings?

Thanks for your advice a few days back to help me jet my carbs. I put in 120's all across and it runs well with no blue pipes! Those brand new Jardines SHINE!

Fredintoon, I DO believe in magic! Definitely agree with you that the stock airbox is a bear for carb removal and replacement!!

This is what you said Fredintoon:

With the stock airbox in place my carbs plugged up at all too frequent intervals.
I thought you were saying that the stock airbox caused your problem. Sorry about that. You can see how I'd get that from your statement though, right?
