Tonight I rolled her on her side and got the oil filter off as well as removed the last of the wiring and undid the swingarm universal.

Tomorrow the motor comes out, wheels forks and triple clamps off.

It's a long weekend here this weekend so I'm hoping to get a box full of parts sand blasted and make a start on preping the frame so they're ready for painting before I return to work on Tuesday.

Have another long weekend the following week with the Friday off so hopefully I'll be spraying then.

Be sure to have a close look at the bottom of the frame tubes for rust holes. Look where the lowest point would be when the bike is on its centrestand. Somehow, water gets inside and as they say "rust never sleeps".

I'll be sure to look out for that... Centre stand is long gone but I'm sure it's probably still been collecting water.

Geeez, what was I thinking! Of course, the bikes spends most of its life on the sidestand, that's where the water pools, that's where the rust shows up. Doh!!

Well the motor didn't come out because I ended up getting 6 stitches in my left index finger while making up a bracket for a cot for my son.

Today I'm going to take the rest of the front and rear off the frame and hopefully get the frame off the motor.... See how things go.

Well you're a brave man to take that one on

Mine wasn't that bad but the end result was the same, everything had to be stripped and refinished. It's taken me about 3 years so far!!

I just kept taking it piece by piece, when something was done I boxed it up and put it away in storage. One great day I had run out out of bits of rusty metal and just had a pile of boxes. It was like Christmas unwrapping all those boxes and starting to put it all back together again..

It's a shame that you're not closer. I have lots of bits you could have which are in much better condition than what you have (wheels, forks, yokes etc..)

                  Good luck with it!

Thanks Shappers... Yea I wanted a ground up restoration project and this came along at the right price.

I plan on taking a similar approach to you anf just do it bit by bit over the next year or two... I have a heap of XJ900 parts I'm going to strip and paint while I'm at it.

I've already got a replacement set of forks and a couple of other bits from e-Bay and here but yea I'll be collecting other bits while I slowly clean, paint and piece this jigsaw back together. Good thing is I have plenty of time so no rush

Progress is pretty slow at present because I'm doing a quick cleanup on a VF400F Honda right now but A friend does have the frame and is in the process of doing a repair on the broken rear shock mount and the centre stand mounts.

Anyone in NZ or OZ got a centre stand for sale?

                      Cheers

                          Have you tried www.cycletreads.co.nz ?

They have some fairly good deals on aftermarket replacement indicators.

gday, I have the centrestand but I reckon freight to Unzud would be much more than its worth??? I dont use it so its there if you still want it.

Thanks but I've had the mounts removed... Going to go without a centre stand now. Cheers

                                New development

After months of doing nothing with my XS11.... I've bought another one lol

1982 XS1100 Midnight Special.... In better condition to the first one.

So now that I have more parts and I'm nearing completion of the XV750 off roader... Getting close to doing more on this project.

I'll post some photos and details later.
