  • emulsion tube question

Right now I'm putting on a major push to get a bike I've had for nearly two years on the road ... which is turning into a real adventure in mechanics. Forget about everything I've done to this bike ... let alone the money spent

I have chased and fixed many ignition and carb problems along the way but there seems to be one last hurdle .... yup .... carbs .... imagine that?

The carbs were purchased from someone on this site but have NEVER run right. Looked good but had several internal issues .... so yesterday I decided to do it right ..... so I took the disassembled bank of carbs to the bike shop around the corner to soak in the ultrasonic tank. I figured that would loosen any unseen crud as well as the emulsion tubes which didn't pop right out easily. He said it would take about half an hour. Picked 'em a couple of hours later and was presented a bill for 80 bucks. WOW! What a rip !! Talked 'em down to what they had quoted ... 40 bucks and took 'em home.

Problem is: E-tubes are still stuck in the carb bodies ... a search on 'emulsion tubes' didn't find much.

Have done the following: Drizzeled PB Blaster and Bumout in around them, and found a small socket that fit the tube perfectly to use as a mandril for driving it out. Couple of firm whacks .... nothin' moves. I could hit 'em harder .... but ... time to ask the Gurus for some advice before I mess something up ....

Stupid question but, you have removed the main and are trying to drive up from the bottom (float side)?

      Not a stupid question, Ernie

Just a stupid mechanic. Some guys are just good and you're one of 'em ... Amazing how easy they came out when tapped in the correct direction. Had I looked at another tube I had laying loose, I'd have known that too. Thx Ernie ....
