  • Windjammer Mounting bracket

A friend is giving me a windjammer fairing. He told me he took it off a honda something, can't remember what exactly.
So I need to fab up a mounting bracket, I searched and saw a lot of folks have done the same as I'm getting ready to do.
Unfortunately no one ever posts a picture or dimensions or drawings of what they ended up with, or better yet what a "stock" bracket looks like.
Can anyone help me out? I'm sure I can come up with something workable on my own but it will be so much better/faster with a good starting point.

Found this on ebay....item no. 190240809961...looks pretty close to what I have on mine. I had a spare but I think I gave it away, I'll double check when I get home.

yeah, that looks similar to the bracket I've been given too but I doubt that height, spacing, angles, ect ect would be the same for a honda "something" as for my xs. If you have a spare made for an xs I'd love it if you could post up some measurements from it so I know how far to modify the one I've got.

            Hey psy,

Couldn't find my old braket last night. If I get a chance tonight I'll take some measurements off the one that's on the bike.

Wow, talk about timing. I need a mounting bracket too. I picked up a Windjammer 4 with a honda mounting bar and I need to fab one for an XS1100. I would be interested in a picture and dimensions also. I would think you could fab one with a steel bar, a heavy hammer, and maybe a torch.

Just a tip from the Vetter site,

Study an existing mount and placement. Note that the rear end of the fairing mount is about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2” ” lower than the front mount. Proper windshield angle approximates the fork angle. Try to make the fairing as close to the bike as possible. Usually, it is the handlebars that hit the windshield at full lock that limit how far back the fairing can go. You may want to play with handlebar pull backs. When you are all done, sitting on the bike in riding position, the upper windshield edge should appear to be about 1” below the horizon. Cut it off to that height. You don't want a windshield above your eyes because in rainy weather, when the windshield has water on it, you cannot see the road ahead!

wa407mpp - I assume by your "if you can get on their website" comment that you don't know what their website is? I tried www.swanee.com and that didn't work, its a junk advertising site. I also tried searching for swanne and couldnt' find anything that was motorcycle related. I have no intention of buying one for that price but maybe they'd have a picture or something.

egsols - thanks for looking, if you get a chance measurments would be great, but I'm not in a hurry, I won't be using the fairing for a few months, I'll put it on when it starts to get to cold to ride naked.

I've also been browsing the vetter site and didn't see that little bit about the mounting position, at least I know what I"m shooting for.

In addition to a full fairing I also find that clothes help with the cold wind.

Your right, I almost never ride without my leather jock strap and full face helmet, some things just need a little extra protection. Does that count as ATGATT? On the plus side, riding naked prevents saddle butt on those long rides, and I've never had a bee get stuck inside the shirt I wasn't wearing.

garth, would you mind taking some measurements and posting a little diagram or photo? I wonder if the standard bracket is different then the special bracket?
