so Im almost done tuning my carbs ( ha ha) and Im wondering , I just changed my oil and filter less than 1k miles ago and the oil looks pretty dark , is it ok to just drain the oil and not replace the filter. I read somewhere on the site that oil breaks down after 800 miles on a bike , and mine was running lean due to jetting and tuning

Garth - da book recommends oil change every 3k, and filter every 6k. So yes you can, but I would recommend taking the filter housing off and getting the dirty oil out of there too. Otherwise it'll be looking dark again real quick.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Garth - Oh, you've got one of those 4/1's. Luckily I can get my filter housing off without removing the exhaust. Bummer man.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Garth - Are you sure the housing won't come off with the pipes on? Looks like there might be enough room to drop it down and pull it out from the front. Then again it's hard to accurately judge distances from pictures. What a PITA! Looks like it cost you your center stand too. I like the way they look though. That's not radar absorbant paint you've got there, is it? Looks like a stealth XS . Looks good without the rear fender. Where'd you put your license plate?I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Garth - OK, now I found it. I LOVE the license bracket! I like the grips too - are they vibration isolating? Old Betsy has that resonance thing going on in the handlebars. Ride for an hour or so and it makes my hands go numb. Then again, for $45 I might try pumping 'em full of caulk first.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
