I work in a machine shop. I can't immagine anyone sitting on another mans bike there. I think they would expect to loose an arm or worse for this infraction. Not that I see myself as a tough guy - too old for that!

I work in a Tool shop. There you ask to use someones Allen wrenches, and you would never even think of getting in someones toolbox. If someone I work with saw someone sitting on a co-workers bike without permission, they would probably bring the bikes owner a wallet for evidence of the outcome. It wouldn't be pretty.

Never would I climb on a total stranger's bike, probably would even pass if he told me to.

My best friend since 1980 told me over and over to take his 1100SH out for rides when I was still working on getting my SG running. I know we trust each other fully but to me, it would be like him telling me to take his wife for the weekend.

Here in my apartment complex, anyone that wants to climb on my bike can take it up with my Chief of Security. If you can convince him, well...good luck.

              A pet peeve of mine...

I NEVER touch anyone's bike without asking and it steams me when someone even leans on mine... I spend a lot of time (well.. usually) polishing and trying to make her look good... I sure as heck don't want someone coming along and smearing their hand prints on her...
What really gets me is when seasoned riders do this... I had someone sit on my bike one time when I wasn't paying attention... I didn't say anything... but MAN! did I ever want to!

I guess I'm fairly anal about my bike, I don't want anyone else riding it or sitting on it or anything. not because it's in pristine condition....(yeah right, it'll never have that description put to it again), I just know my bike and it's idiosyncrasies, I don't know if I've gotten used to them or not and someone else might get themselves in a bad way as a result. to me, it runs and operates normally, to someone else, it may not, I just don't know, so I don't want anyone else on my bike...unless their on the passenger seat. have a nice day and ride safe.

As many here know from photos of my bike it is as close to factory floor condition as I could ever expect to get it ... so for my XS1100F... if your a stranger to me ...

Not long ago... there was a neighbor guy walking with his grandson. He said "wow, look at those motorcycles." When they returned from the park, he asked if his grandson could take a closer look. I said "sure!" So then he asks if the kid can sit on a bike. He lifted the kid up and the 4 year old starts kicking his feet up and slamming his heels onto the side covers. I immediately helped the kid off the bike and said see ya!

I have said this before on this board, forget where but my sis in law( special needs teacher) has taken my bike to class a few times for a show and tell type deal.....it comes back with a thousand tiny little finger prints on it and I look at it and my chest sticks out a bit more,my shoulders become more square.....I smile as I look at the bike........wish I had been there to see those smiling faces and looks of joy on those little kids......that is a time when touching is ok.
With a bike like we all have....

No one sits on my bikes (except my two sons)unless they are riding on the back with me. I never take it to work and they are covered when sitting in the garage. Spent too many hours getting them to where they are today to have someone mess around with them. So yes I guess I am a bit protective with them.

I would not say anal as I freely give my keys to other riders that I know and have ridden with. I would not expect to have people I do not know sitting on them in a parking lot. That just seems like they do not respect other peoples property. Kind of sad that anyone would think they could do that.
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it
