  • RPMs at MPH

I am turning 5k rpm at about 60-65 mph. Is this right? Or is my speedo off?

    Hey Dave,

Here's a thread about RPM vs. Speed .

Depends on which rear wheel you have, but even with the smaller 16" of the special, that sounds just a tad too high.

I get about 4K at 60, have NOT done the 750 Final Drive mod.

You might also have some clutch slippage issues???

Dave - At 5k my standard is doing about 80mph. You sure it's the speedo and not the tach giving you trouble? When it says 65, are you passing cages or are they passing you?
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

        Thanks that helps.

I thought it felt more like 75 when at 5k. I think the speedo is off. No clutch slippage going on.
My speedo didn't seem to match the common speeds traffic does on certain roads too. Seems 10mph low.

Dave - did you check the ends of the speedo cable? Sometimes those square blocks on the end of the cable can get rounded off with resultant slippage of the cable.

I just went and looked. Both ends of the cable are good and square.

I think its an after market or non original speedo. Is there a way to calibrate them from the inside?

              RPM vs SPEEDO

Ok, first and foremost...Speedos should be left to people who have nothing to lose and fat french guys.

secondly, My standard with NO mods runs 4k even at 60. I check it all the time cuz you never know when the speedo is gonna take a vacation without giving the mandated 2 weeks' advanced notice of intent to vacate. Hope it helps.
