  • Alternative (CARB)

So my buddy pulls up on a (new) VTX 1300, sounds good, looks generic, and runs great....anyways got to studying his intake and saw 1 (one) carb running the powerful 1300cc motor...Got me thinking that only one carb to adjust on my beast would be pure sin. Looked it up on Google, IIRC,I think it is a 36mm CV....So question is, would this carb run our 4 cylinder bikes correctly? With the proper intake manifold of course?

    1 carb, 4 cylinders

A few weeks ago, I saw a V-max with a holley (1) carb setup.... It ran like a BOOH!

      hey chop,
you could, theyve being doing that to cars for years. :-)
but i dont think it would b worth the hassle, the making and designing of the manifold, then getting a carb jetted and set up.
spend a cpl hundred on some kliens
      you'll never look back. :-)

Not sure how it would work but it would be good on gas.
Score one of those 40 mm keihin carbs from a Harley, off Ebay, for about 75 bucks. They have an exccelerator pump on them and are very tuneable. Or score an S&S Super E and fit that one= very- very tuneable and much more responsive, but more money.

            ????

So 38mm carb runs a 1300cc VTX motor and a 40mm carb runs a HARDLEY 1200?.....All that extra hot air for the owner I guess

Same carb goes on the 883 also.

I have the S&S on my 1000 cc Sportster.

                XSCHOP,

why run a 2 barrel carb when you can have a 4 barrel......? pure more power incentive.....thats why you run the bigger mm carb. if you were going to put a single carb on, it sure would be alot eaiser to TURBO...hehehe or if you wanted to get really easy tune run a throtle body injection, mass air flow senser, a ECU and then you can program the thing....with a TURBO....

these thoughts have ran through my mind.....hehe

                  TURBO

I'm thinking Supercharger. I'm an instant gratification type.

                    hehehe, yeah!!!

but turbos are free power could maybe run a pully for SC off of the pick up coil side, or create an extension off of clutch basket with a seal.......hmmmmm........

                        Cheap SC

I saw somewhere a few years back where some ingenuitive type ran a GM smog pump into his KZ as a supercharger off his chaindrive front sprocket....hmmm

yeah, you would have to wait on your speed to pick up before gaining power....... normally you run it off a pully on the crank for the insant power........ so in our case i belive turbo is a better canidate.

I saw a bike once with a SC i dont remember what it was but i remember think, geeez do you even need that?

                          now i know the awnser......

                          YES!!!

                              2nd gear

I would just launch in second gear and wind her all the way out, that should be my daily ride...
