i just had mine off last saturday.....lol, they can be on there really good.....probably you will need a impact.

Yep 27MM mine came off with impact went back on with an impact.

Thanks a million for the quick reply I guess im doing the dremil fix on my 82 xj 1100 it wont stay in 1st gear keeps popping out

If you don't have an impact gun you can also do as follows:
Put the bike in first gear, press down on the rear brake pedal while removing nut with a socket and breaker bar. This will prevent the shaft from spinning while removing the nut. HTH.

That is true but putting it back on is not so simple.

installing nut

Installing is the same. Hold down brake and tighten up with a torque wrench. Getting all your gears and forks in properly is the FUN part.

Used a torque wrench 27MM socket and sticking a hammer handle between the rear spokes works too....lol Just leave it in 4th. Oh yeah don't forget to flatten the lock washer first.

Is there anything I should know about the dremil fix that wasn't in the forum write up any unexpected things that I will run in to? Is it fairly easy?
