    cheap fuel filters....

hey there oldyam80sg...i got mine from the local lawn mower repair store...cost about $4 each.....i got the ones that are about 1" in diameter and sorta shaped like a pancake...but i have heard of others that are smaller in diameter and might work better...no matter what, a fuel filter of any shape are better than none at all....took me most of the first of the year out in the man cave just to get all the rust outta the carbs....yuck......good luck...ross

I've had good luck with standard auto filters, metal cylinder about two inches long and half inch across. I cross my fuel lines under the tank, to the filters are basically horizontal. Sounds funky maybe, but the filters are available EVERYWHERE and this setup has gotten me across the country twice with no troubles.

      Hope that helps.

The paper filter type seems to work better than the others.

The filters i was looking at today said they can be back flushed to clean. If i get alot of crap in the tank will that disrupt the flow?

              Get "see thru" plastic filters.
I got fancy with the hot rod and put on some $10.00 cleanable glass ones. Looked cool until I broke one, other sits in the top of my tool box as a reminder.

hey there oldyam80sg.....just one question....is it worth tearing the carbs off and apart for $8 dollars...i think not.....mine are white plastic and if they give me problems, i would just replace them rather than take the chance of putting more cr*p from the tank into the carbs...just my 2 cents....ross

Mikes xs has some nice narrow ones for a cheap price. They are clear so you can see the gas level. Just mounted two on mine, they work great.

I use a pair of Russell 40 micron filters that are small but you cannot see through them. The only advantage of seeing into the filter is to see if they are full of junk. The level of fuel in the filter is no matter since they do not have to be full of fuel to operate correctly. The fuel is just passing through so if it is only half full it is still working just fine.

                      I've used

the ones at MikesXS and like the small square size. Especially good for a Special with Octy where space is limited.

                        visi-filter

I used a coule of these visi-filters from NAPA

They are quite small and can actually be squeezed between the airbox boots .

I was just in our local Lowes and noticed they have a pretty good selection of small fuel filters for lawn equipment.

                          Might be another source.

You will want to be aware that some lawn mower filters may not be able to 'pass enough gas' to satisfy the engine at high speed.

                              lawn equipment filters ..

I have seen a bunch of these types of small engine filters and besides being small, they also seem to have very small 'IN' and 'OUT" holes in them ... less than that of the XS carbs and fuel supply hose. I wonder if anyone knows if that restriction could have adverse effects at all???
