well i got the clutch basket off and sure enough, like Randy said, the C-clip was not on there....just ran to the local NAPA store and pick one up. i am about to go fishing in the pan for the one that came off.....

        NOTE:
As far as that bolt that holds the clutch basket on.....when one impact tool doesn't work, get a BIGGER one....

And that is how your tool selection grows.....

          pins

I stopped posting when I saw the pics.
Looked like the pins were still in the shift cam and the little ones in the pic made me think bearing. But could not think of where they could come from without there being a catastrophic failure that would have been obvious.

ok it is back together now, ever thing is installed in the correct manner.....the PO had taken it apart or matbe it was the PPO but they didnt get the inside C-clip on the shaft the one that sits behind the gear...so now there is one there, one that holds the gear on too......yah!!! put her back together put on the brand new clutch cable from motion pro......it was too short and kept the clutch from engaging....so i put the custom one back on and it works perfectly.....wooooohooo!!!!.....But i still need to do the Gear Fix.....my next weekend challenge now that i figured out the shifter thingy.

              Hey Genius ?

Are you saying that you need to do the Dremel 1st/2nd gear fix still??? Then WHY did you bother putting the bike back together. You were already half way there with taking the clutch basket out, which needs to be done to remove the shift shaft and oil pump idler out thru the clutch side?? But I guess you needed to get the bike usable, perhaps your only transport?? Hope you are now more experienced with the clutch assembly and the star plate in particular, so as not to damage it with repeated R&R's!?

Still waiting to hear how your needle bearings from your truck U-joint got into the oil pan??? Perhaps we'll see that in the DumbA$$ Award thread!

                Hey, TC

Still waiting to hear how your needle bearings from your truck U-joint got into the oil pan
I have to confess to having some confusion along the way with this thread, myself as well, .... I'm all straightened out now (way to nail it Randy) .... but ...all I can figure is that Genius was referring to the oil DRAIN pan that he used at some point during that u-joint job as opposed to the bike's oil pan .... I think.

The pins were in the my oil drain pan.....the one i use to catch oil out of bikes.....it was on the shop floor close to where i replaced my u-joint on my truck...thus when i had to use force to remove the old u-joint the needle barings came flying out and some landed in that drain pan.......

                    TC,

i didnt do the gear fix cause i didnt realize i was that close to getting it done....and have no clue as what to do....plus i do need the bike for nice weather so i dont have to drive my truck because it is way tooo expensive.

I hope to study a bit more about the gear fix and then do it..... i have got the clutch removal and install down to an art now. i did it a few times just to get some practice at it.
