  • Master Cylinder Brake Rear

In the last 2 months my rear brakes have seized.
I took it to a bike tech he said he did a flush and a rebuild in the master cylinder. It worked for awhile then it happened again this Sat. before a ride. he did another flush But he recomended That I get another master. It would just happen again.
I can get another one and put it in.Does any one have any ideas?
Also in the manual the nozzle that goes up into the cylinder kit does not have a spring attached to the brake arm that attaches to the nozzle that goes to the cylinder kit, mine does.
the manual does not show any sping at all only on the shaft that goes through the frame.
I have to add this. The bike sat fot 7 yrs
Out side of that the bike is great.

    Hello,

I am new to the forum and I'm sure some vets will chime in but by my reading the forum on a regular basis I have found a lot of reference to the "spooge" hole in the master cyclinders (front and rear) that is very small and if overlooked during a rebuild can get clogged and prevent the brakes from releasing. Search "spooge" and I'm sure you will find what your looking for.

The gurus on this site have said that sometimes the inside of the brakelines starts breaking down and causes particles to clog up the fluid return holes. I am having the same problem, so I figure I'll have to get new brake lines. As far as the rear M/C goes, mine is from a different bike (Midnite Special). There is a spring on the inside of the M/C and one on the brakelite switch on my 79SF. Good luck!

        brake drag

Might be a stuck caliper too. With the wheel off the ground, if you crack open the bleeder screw and the wheel still binds, then it's a caliper sticking.

And with the same old, deteriorating brake lines, the new master would plug up also, as would another new master, etc, etc. Good excuse to $pend a few buck$ and install some braided stainless brake lines all around. You'll be rid of the seizing problem on the rear, and you will be amazed by the difference in the front brakes.
