This message is for Chopper or anyone else who has experience with rigid frames for xs11's.

Chopper, I would love to build a bike something like yours. I love the look of that frame. Could you please give me some information on the exact details of making a rigid frame for the XS11. Any frame measurements, rakes, stretches, seat pan diagrams etc would be great. Do I need to construct a frame jig? what frontend setup did you use? Any info at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all of you help.

hi cole, thanks ,as for your questoins..where do i start? making a frame, this can be done using the stock frame,if you are carefull and weld on temopary braces before you cut you can do all the work without a jig.to build from scratch you are best with a jig or at least a surface which is completely true(a machined surface like a blade from a large industrial gillotine or similar)then using squares and a plum line you can get the right results. frame measurements measure your stock frame, and work from your other components, rake and trail is a science in its self.if you give me some idea of your plans i can advise, its possible to run radical front ends with reasonable handling.stretches etc are to personal taste(but need to be taken into consideration re rake etc) seat pans make a card template to suit your seat rails/fender my front end its a standard xs1100 front end with one off trees and spacers for discs and a new fender, goodrige hosing etc hope this helps? my advice is that if you cant figure it out you should get help(a person with a lot of expierience) or make a couple of frames from cheap tubing (not to ride!!! just for a "learning curve") that said feel free to ask any questions cole your welcome to any help i can give.cheers ps measure twice cut once

Thank you for sharing some of your knowledge with me. I am looking to build a setup that is almost identical to yours. I really love the stance and frame of your bike. What did you do with all of the electronics that were previously attached to the backbone (reserve lighting, wiring, etc)? Did you stretch your frame or is it basically the same dimensions that is was stock only with a single backbone and a hardtail? Approximately how difficult is this procedure assuming the welder is competent. What size and type of tubing did you use to build your frame parts. I am trying to locate a spare frame to use so that I can continue to ride my bike during most of the procedure. Also, is there anything involved with this procedure that is extremely difficult, or that requires a high level of expertise. I consider myself to be good with mechanics and construction but I am fairly new to the biking scene and I don't want to get in over my head. I apologize for all of the questions, but I would like to get started as soon as possible and I don't know who else to ask. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
