Ok so I go to pulling the left side cover off and the bolt was just in there not threaded so I went to the store and bought a new one, because the old one, the first few threads where toast. I got home went to put the bolt in and it wouldn't cetch the threads so I took the timing plate (don't know technical name yet) off and the pin that spins what looks like the rotor? Then I put it back in, threw that plate on and bolted it on. It will only run on choke and i jumped the solinoid right to the starter and it will run choked and rev right up etc... BUT only with the starter engaged. The second you take the jumper off it dies. unchoked it will only back fire. So my question is how do I time it without a hanes manual? I'm in the process of getting a shop manual and wanna get it so it will atleast idle on its own.
Could this be caused by it needing to be rewired? I'm almost positive its because the timing but just a thought.
Thanks in advanced.
P.S. with only 3 headers and the other cylinder with no pipe (due to it being bent during unloading by a friend...) It sound ANIMAL.
