  • Petcock Repair

I have ordered the repair kit from george at Ebay. Looks like that kit does not come with the gasket between tank and petcock.

I started making one from a Fibre sysnthetic rubber gasket sheet I have. Noticed that it is not tall enough once placed in the petcock groove. Should I double up gasket meterial? Which gasket meterial is safe for gas? My gasket kit came with...

    Fibre Gasket Paper
    Cork Rubber
    Fibre and Sysnthetic Rubber meterial
    Rubberized Hi Density Fibre Material

    Not sure what is best.

You would probably be time and heartache ahead to buy new ones. You might try bike bandit ,I think that is where I got mine a few months back.My memory isnt perfect though.LOL.I also thought I saw someone claim you can get them through yamaha
too,but I'm not sure about that either.
OK so maybe I dont know much but its all I know.

There is no gasket between the tank and the petcock. There is a large oval O ring that sits in a groove in the petcock. You'll see it when you pull the petcocks off. That will be in georgefix's kits.

Yamaha still sells them. They're 6 bucks each at this site.
For some reason, there's not a parts break-down for the 80SG fuel petcocks so I checked the 81 'cause they're the same ones.

You could also just use a neoprene O-ring of the right size... You might have to use some three-bond to get them to stay in the groove while you're tightening them down.

One of the O-rings on this page might work. They're only two bucks. You'll have to do a little research or ask here if anyone has used them.
