Fuel filters on XJ with octopus

I have searched the subject and now(still) am confused . Do I need 2 inline filters or 4 ? How do I position them ? Has anyone used 90 degree filters or straight ones ?
I feel like I'm running without underwear not having fuel filters .
MY air filter is in at $50 from the robber . Choke !

Alex,

I picked up filters for mine, you only need two. I'd postion them in the loop just before the line joins the carbs. That will keep the fuel reaching the carbs filtered regardless of whether your petcocks or in the on, reserve or prime position.

Would be the same set up on an XS1100 special.

I got a couple of high volume filters for my '79 Standard at Z1. Prior to that I had a couple lawn-mower line filters that I got at Tractor Supply. They worked OK. I use a little more fuel line and cross them under the tank. That way when I want to tune my carbs I can take the gas tank off, turn it around backwards and set it where the seat lives, and pull the fuel lines straight to reach back there.

small bronze visi filter

Today I bought 2 very small cone shaped bronze filters for the scalded horse . They are about 3/4 inch dia . They seem very small . I laso looked at a paper element filter that was 1 1/2 inch dia and 4 1/2 inch long (tip of inlet/outlet). Do you think the bigger filter would be better and is there room for it ? As far as I can see I will have to fit the filter between the air box boots and it looks tight .

Axel - I'd use the smaller ones. It's not just the diameter of the filter but the length as well, and of course the diameter of the fuel fitting. I wouldn't use anything with paper in it. If you have a little water in the gas sometimes it will do bad things to paper elements as in clog 'em up. Besides, at 4.5 inches long they're HUGE. You could use ONE of those on a V8.
