    Planedick,

Just so happens I was at HF today and bought the same bits you mentioned. So far they are working great

I'll post pictures later of the bit and the bevels. Man...it was much easier than I thought it would be

Got to go get the kids in their bath Will come back later

          Steve,

I thought the same thing too when I first saw it. But the rotation arrow is pointing forwards

Sorry... I was out of town for the weekend, or I could have rode up there to help. You could do as Bob Jones said about beveling the washer.... but I have never done this and never had any problems. Many of the members here I believe have just switched the washers position and not had any problems.

If you are in there, you may as well dress up all the gears. I personally think 1st is the hardest to do right along with the 4th gear dogs, but I also think it's probably the most important. The wear you showed on the 5th dogs/2nd gear slots is all it needs to jump. They just didn't engage very far stock. I even did a washer swap on the back side of 1st gear to make it engage a bit more. I don't know that it helped... but it hasn't seemed to hurt either. I did this because the "2nd" gear problem seems to manifest itself in the XJ's 1st gear. I didn't just swap the spacer, I bought washers that were exactly half the thickness of the stock one. I put one of these in the original position, and one on the back of first to keep the space shimmed equally as before.

That's a Cheng-Shin tire. It is mounted correctly. Believe it or not, they actually work pretty well in the rain?!? But you don't get many miles out of them. I was in a pinch and put one on my XJ last year. It is bald and I doubt I have 5 or 6 thousand on it. They are cheap and are better than the racing slick I had on before it!

                  XSPastor,

I hope to be riding my XS to church soon too

I once raced flat track, but that was about 30 plus years ago and it's been about 25 years since I rode a street bike...so you might want to throw a little prayer in there for me

My Metzler had a similar tread design that made everyone think it was on backwards. From what I understand the design is to provide additional braking assistance.

                      Hey Pastor,

Nice looking church and great looking family

I saw the picture of you with the family and NASCARs all around, but where's the XS1100

I also looked through the chruch covenants and sounds like a place I would feel comfortable visiting

                        Egsols and Trbig,

Gotta say that front tire wouldn't have been my first choice, but its basically never been used and came on the bike...so there it stays

I read through the post about what tires are best...I'll need one for the front of my 1100. I had Dunlop GT-501s on my street tracker, but didn't get to test them much as some crack head stole it the week I was finishing it. I think the GTs would have been pretty good and I thought they were a good bang for the buck

My 1100 rear wheel has something called a Challenger I doubt I would have picked it, but again, its new and came with the bike

                          Hi Mashermoto,

Just wanted to say how upset I was when your 650 got stolen. I was avidly following your bikes progress, especially the engine work as I am doing something similar.

I really hope you have better luck with the 750 and the 1100. Any hope left on the 650?

                          Best regards..

                            Shappers,

Thanks for the complement I got to tell you I'm blown away from all the interest good folks had in that street tracker thread I don't know which I enjoyed more...building all the modifications or discussions with members

Yes, I'm keeping my eye on the 1100 and 750 more than I normally would to keep the bad guys from ripping them off

I haven't heard anything about the 650 yet, but the weather here in Oklahoma is getting good and someone is going to want to ride it. That's when they will get busted

To all interested readers, here is the link to 650 build that Shappers mentioned. Of particular note is I have a $500 reward for anyone who can find it, and XS1100 lovers will note the complete 1100 front end and 1100 rear break set up. Both were from what I thought was a 1979 XS1100 that TopCat helped me identify as a 1981 XS1100 SH

                            http://xs650temp.proboards29.com/ind...ad=4858&page=7

This bike was stolen without the seat and tank, which might make it harder to identify. But that FZR 600 monoshock swing arm on a 30 year old XS650 will stick out like a sore thumb
