Hey Red i use that on my large gas powered RC airplanes its great makes everything fuel proof holds up very well and delivers a nice gloss to.

At $4.79 for a 3 1/2 oz jar it ain't the least cost solution though if it works to protect model airplane paint from the devil-mix that those little glow-plug motors burn it should be great against ordinary gasoline.

Actually .....I think its ' butyrate dope' .... more like laquer than enamel. Looks like they've removed the word 'dope' from the label .... bad connotation, I guiess . I inadvertantly sniffed a bunch workin' on flying models as a kid .... and I'm certain that's what happened to Planedick ..... lol.

Hey guys when i shoot alot of tank i cvlear coat with a Urethane clear very tough stuff once cured . i have never had a problem with fuel causing paint to lift. The clear is made by nason which is owned by dupont it is Similar to Imron paint and that stuff is darn near indestructable. and this can be sprayed over any base color . Also alot of teh new single stage Urethanes are great they give same gloss as base coat clear coat. have great UV resistance and fuel resistance as well mostly used on Semis so its tough stuff ive ised it for yrs.

smell Imron if I think about it, Paintman. Yuuuuk. Just the thought of shooting it almost makes me sick. Very noxious stuff. I agree on the single stage urethane clear coat too .... have used a bunch of DelClear in the past .... PPG product. California may have outlawed it by now too.

hey there folks....i see some of you know of this stuff....trust me you don't need a lot of it to do the job....consistancy of water.....best way i found to apply was 3 coats (very lightly) with a harbor freight air brush gun....gun cost about $12.....didn't mess with the base color or even the pin stripping.....i try not to get gas all over the place, but when i had some splash while filling the tank...just wiped it off and all was good....ross

We have these rubber accordian things on the gas nozzle that's supposed to seal off at the gas tank filler and suck back the fumes from the tank back to the station's tank. Holding them up is necessary to make the fuel flow. If you don't pull the accordian thing the pump will not put fuel in your tank. I eliminated the problem by cutting a short peice (5 1/4") of black 2" ABS plastic pipe that fits over the filler of my standard tank so I can just place the nozzle in the plastic peice and it holds back the accordian thing just like stuffing the nozzle in the gas tank of your cage. The real nice part of this is I can fill the tank past the top of the tank and up into the plastic pipe more than once and it will slowly bubble into the tank allowing me to put about another 1/2 gal and increasing my range by about 20 mi. Instead of 150 mi range I can go at least 170 mi. It also eliminates the spillage factor.

Do they still sell automotive acrylic laquer? Last time I painted my tank and covers I used DuPont Acrylic Laquer. Put on two base coats of black then a coat with gold microflake. Then covered it all with six coats of clear. This was in 1996 and it still looks like new today (after many fueling spills).

It is old technology but is very forgiving if you are not an extremely experienced painter. If they still actually sell the stuff then I would recommend it.

That outstanding bike looked so familiar that I had to go back to the post from Nubee where I thought I remembered seeing it before .... the thread talking about LED conversion .... soooo ... uhhh ... are Nubee and Tadracer multiple iterations of the same guy? Their bikes sure do look alike ....

I can vouch for nubee being his own man. He lives in Ft.Worth, and I have met him several times, and I knew his bike before he bought it. It belonged to a member named btdtdan, and he lived just a couple of miles from me.
