I have rebuilt a lot of carburetors including the ones on my XS.I agree with TC,your pics show jets still kinda dirty. In my experience I have found out that as TC stated, you have to have them squeeky clean for them to flow right(on any engine).Actually the whole carb needs to be that clean especially inside passages.Believe me I have chased my tail before and usually when this happens I either wasn't thorough enough or slightly damage a componant that on closer examination was obvious. Also you didn't say how you cleaned that pilot jet.I would recommend not using wire or drill bits or anything else that is harder than brass to clear holes. It is very easy to oversize an orifice and that would definitely make it run rich.
Just food for thought. And good luck.It sounds like your aquiring a bunch of cool tools.Perserverence wiil prevail.
    Hope that helps,Rick
Oh and one more thing .Those needles are sensitve. If it isn't perfectly round it wont close that jet completely. That may still be your problem.

      only crazy people ride XS11's......

hey there folks.....sorry i haven't updated lately, but i've been in the man-cave for the past 4 days solving the problems of the XS11 universe.....trust me i can't even look in the direction of the man-cave today as this is time to be with SWMBO (and get this, she really likes that title!)....for god's sake, i have to get permission just to go online....(not really, but i asked just 2 b safe...ya never know)...

      (deep breath)....obkaybe, here we go.....

AlanB....thanx for the compliment....trust me this took a LOT of pints, but in the end i think it worked out....as far as cleaning, keep reading...it gets better.....

TopCatGr58....i bow to your wisdom.....your words inspired me to new heights of XSive-ity.....ya wanted to know what i cleaned...i thought i had cleaned everything, but there was that little voice in the back of my head that said "hey dumbsh*t, ya might of missed something....so in tribute to the little voice in my head, i give you this.....(remember, you said you like pictures!!!!)

tarzan.....thanx 4 the sage advice.....wires and carbs do not mix.....thanx 4 the compliment on the new tools....was thinking about opening a XS11 tool exchange program, but gotta get with the admin to verify proper liscenses...hehehe...actually the needle seats down below the flat spot on the needle jet......like shown b4, the xtra collar that sticks into the throat of the carb really does not seat the needle any better....i think it just helps create a better venturi effect for the jet....it seats down where the mikesxs jet top is....

okay folks here is what i found living in the man-cave for 4 nights.....

with the gas tank and seat removed, you can have the carbs out in 8 minutes.....

tore the tops apart and figured "what the h*ll, lets do the full show"......

btw, here is simple tool to remove the "balls" and springs in carbs #1 & #4....speaker magnet and ice pick.....

the "funkiness that once was my carbs".....

splitting the hairs of the XS11......

      organization of the guts.....

what dirt lays in them thar' carbs......

this is just like when i disected the frog in biology class....

      the friends that helped me......

someone comitted an act of cleanliness....trust me, this is a picture of 4 carbs that have had every orfice violated multiple times.....i found holes that have not seen the light of day since they were born....

extra clean with thinner and a toothbrush....

cleanliness is next to XSiveness......i did notice that my bike has 2 different style "tubes".....all have the xtra piece that sticks up into the carb throat...the outer (1 & 4) have 16 holes each.....but the inner (2 & 3) have 10 holes.....line up just like the outer's but the configuration is 2-3-2-3....not sure what this means, but made sure i put them back in the same carbs they came out of.....

ok folks...where' waldo...there is something wrong with this picture.....never noticed it until i found it, but looking back i see it clear as day.......

"now i'm steppin' into the twilight zone....."....it seems like i've been here b4......and yes, my "balls" and springs are back in place with some 3 in 1 oil coating them...

remember "where's waldo"......there he is.....(sorry 4 the foto quality)...but #3 float was twisted....at least 3 mm as i can tell...so it cocked sideways as the bowl filled.....if it didn't, no matter what, this can not be good...fixed....set all float heights at 24mm off the top of the gasket...pilot screws set at 1-1/4 turn out.....

      ahhhhh...better foto.....

double checked float heights with clear tube method....(notice the rebel devil in the background of foto #2 keeping a close eye on my surgical skills.....)

put it all back 2gether and hit the start button.....she lives.....still got some questions about sync-ing but got her close....man, does she run better....i will be starting another thread regarding my findings on sync-ing the carbs....trust me, it it took all the knowledge of this forum, my friends, mechanics, engineers, my tools that i have made and bought.....and my charming good looks to get it right....

okay...forget the looks, but thanx 2 all for the knowledge and information.....i will be sharing all that i find out.....

what we had here was failure to commuicate......

      thanx 2 all.....humbly submitted.....your XSiveness......ross
