I just found the kickstarter this weekend. Never knew it was there. I'm going to try starting the bike with it, simply for ****s and giggles.

    Looking for an XS

    79 XS1100SF (RIP)
    - stock standard headers(stupid PO), slip-on after-market mufflers.
    - after-market rear shocks (PO installed)
    - no airbox, POD filters

    Misery remembered is ADVENTURE!

      any xs850/xs750 will fit

Hey Ross and Cobia and all

any of the xs750 or xs 850 foldable kick starters will fit on a 78/79 xs11 engine's kicker stub .
I found with mine, that it is best to install the kicker as far away from the engine housing as possible, because if it is too close, the kicker will rub on the brake pedal when you kick down on it.
You will need to dremel a little channel into the kick starter stub to allow the pinch bolt to go past the stub.
Other than that, it is all easy.

I am not sure about putting the inner kicker assembly into a 80's engine without stub, but I remember vaguely reading in this forum that it would be very involved to do so.You might run a search, but I think it would require splitting the engine housing, to get the bearing assembly in.
      Top Cat would know....
      Cheers, Jurgen
