Ignition Plate/Timing Help

I don't know if you've seen this or not, but here's a link to Yamaha's parts. You don't need to sign up, just click on the "Proceed to parts catalog" button.



Parts

Step 1, put in cycle, 2 is year, 3 is model. It will bring up the parts for your bike with pics. On the left, click on "Pickup coil-governor". It will bring up an exploded view of what is there. You can zoom in and see the pin behind all of that assembly that I am talking about. (#12)

On mine, there's only 2 screws at @ the 10 o'clock and 4 o'clock position to take the stuff off. The XS has the same cases as mine, so you'll still have those 2 screw holes. If you can get to those without taking everything apart, stuff might come off as a unit? Those 2 screws and the center allen screw gets all my stuff off.

Yes, the 'timing shaft' that he is talking about is where the advance mechanism fits on the 78-80 XS's. You will have to remove the whole kit and kaboodle to get to that pin.
