  • Choke lever repair help needed

I know I've seen it here somewhere...someone did a pretty creative repair for their broken choke lever by using a small hinge. I can't find that thread anywhere, and I need to see how it was done because my lever broke this morning. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response! Is there a way to make the photos bigger? I need to be able to see the detail better so I can put the holes where they need to be. Thanks again!

            my 2 cents

This is how I eliminated that knee-scraping choke lever. Knob just screws right on existing choke shaft. Done.

              Mike,
The reason they break is poor maintenance! You NEED to oil the choke shaft at all the points it travels through the carb bodies. I use a spray silicone lube on mine, and it seems to last about six months. I also ride about 24K miles per year.

Now I like that little mod that BikerPhil did there, I may have to steal that idea if you don't mind Phil. I ain't that my lever is broken, it is just that when I have the Vetter lowers on the fairing (which I do except in warmer weather) they interfere with the action of the lever. That there little knobby jobby looks to be just the ticket to solve that problem.
                Thanks Phil!!!

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

                  knobber

Go for it. It is easy to operate as long as choke shaft is lubed. 99 cent knob from home depot and thread lock blue.

                    Hey MRO,

Thanks for finding that old post. I sorta fixed it so that at least the photos are NOW active links to the larger images on the photodump site!

But Phil, I like your approach and idea as well.

                      forgot to mention

Might have to run a die over the choke shaft, 8-32?, so it threads on nicely.

Couldn't agree more, Ray. PO wasn't as loving as he should have been, and I've been nursing the lever since I've owned the bike. Got it fixed now though, and it works great!
