Uh.. How many carbs you got?

I don't believe they are sold as kits, just individually.

        Mad,

Just a couple notes for when you do your jets:

With the carbs upside down, loosen the eight bolts on the angle-iron bar that braces all four carbs. You don't need to take them all the way out, but you need to be able to move the bar a little to get the little semi-cicular lip of the bowl past it. When you pull the bowls off, do it carefully so as not to destroy the bowl gasket. If you are going to set or check the float height you might want to have a spare set of gaskets handy, as that gasket can get pretty stuck to the upper part of the flange, and it needs to be removed to set/check height. Z1 has a float bowl gasket set for about $12.

When you remove the old mains, keep an eye on the brass washer that sits under them. They can pop out when you remove the jet and if they hit the ground and roll they can be hard to find.

When you remove the pilots you will need a pretty small screwdriver - maybe 1/8" standard blade. The screwdriver has to go past the threads for the cap screw, which also has a little washer on it, to the top of the jet. Unscrew the jet until you feel it "hopping". Invert the carb rack and the pilot should fall free.

While you've got the bowls off it's a good time to make sure all the little orifices are clean and flowing freely.

Just remember, if at first you don't succeed, skydiving might not be for you

            Mad,

Here's a link that will take you to the gaskets I mentioned: Z1 Float Bowl Gasket Set for XS/XJ 1100

I looked them up for my bike, but the description says they are for XS or XJ. I looked up your carbs on Yamaha's parts lookup, and they look to be very similar carbs, although the yamaha part number for '79F and '82J float bowl gaskets are different.

The gaskets the link takes you to are not genuine yamaha, so maybe they have more of a universal fit. Maybe someone else knows for certain if these gaskets are interchangeable.

"Maybe" is a terrible word, don't you think

On bowl gaskets... the only thing different between the 70's carbs and the 80's carbs is about a 1mm difference in the position of one hole that can be widened to make a universal bowl gasket.

                  Mad,

Glad to help. Unless I'm mistaken the hole 81XS was referring to is the one that matches up with the brass tube that sticks down into the float bowl. I had to adjust it on mine before the gasket would fit properly. I used a leather punch to elongate the hole a little bit - perfect tool for the job.

Prices looked a little steep, although they have the 122.5 Mad was looking for. They want between $5-$7 per jet. MikesXS has them for $6 per pair. If I had it to do over again, that's where I would get my jets.

I noticed in their carb jetting recommendations a complete reprint of Denny Zanders jetting recommendations. I wonder if he knows.
