• Tip

Just a short tip to anyone who doesn't know. When replacing bearings you don't have to pay for the expensive originals from the dealers, you can get them from most truck or auto parts stores quicker and for a lot less money. This may have already been posted ,but I thought it was worth saying again in case the new guys missed it.

"Availability"

Somewhere on here was a thread with all the "conventional" part numbers.
Somewhere buried in my garage are my parts catalogs and if I could find them, I'd repost the numbers.
The only bearing unavailable outside of Yamaha is that big fat one for the rear wheel.

thanks Pro.

That would be good information to have, especially for the guys without a Yamaha shop close by. My old Yamaha shop was more of a chain saw, dirt bike, and ATV shop. In 23 years I never saw more than a couple new street bikes sold there.

The manufacturer and number of the bearing (not the end seller) is usually on the side of the bearing. It can be very small, but it's usually there.
2 or 3 companies make bearings for thousands of suppliers.

The bearings have the standard numbers written on them (6303, 6404, etc). Any bearing supply house will have all three that we use regularly except the magic left rear one.

Well, to my limited knowledge, no one has yet found a replacement for the rear-left bearing. Let us know if you come across that! Ooops, Randy beat me to it.

"Actually..."

Somewhere on the site is a tip where the guy found two bearings, and if you double them up, equals the "thickness" of the original.

(I guess the Yamaha original is cheaper)

Here's another tip.
Don't have the spray lithium grease on the bench when you are using spray carb cleaner to clean a carb. Don't ask!
