  • What size bolts for the carb bowls?

    Anybody know what size/thread bolts go in the bowls? Bike didn't come with any, and of course when I re-did the fuel lines and put some gas in, it started pouring out from the bottom. I assume they will also need copper washers, where's a good place to get those?

        Fellas, I believe he means the drain plugs, not the bowl screws.

          Sorry for not being more specific, but yes, it's the drain plugs that are missing. Also known as the bleeder screws.

            FYI;

            Those screws are special, they have a tapered tip. Any old screw won't do the job. IIRC, been a while, but I had the same drain cocks on my '81 Special. They also have an o-ring on them?

              So it's a dealer-only part, then? That sucks, guess i'll start calling around and see if anybody has them.

                carb parts

                You can probably source them from www.motorcyclecarbs.com as an alternative.

                    81 are they only one's that have that style (horizontal). The 78,79,80 have a brass hex bolt that goes up into the bowl in a vertical position. GrandPrix, which do you have? Horizontal or vertical?

                      They're vertical (go up into the bottom of the carb). I'll check that motorcyclecarbs.com out.

                            I thought there was a carb change in '80, the bowls didn't change till '81?

                              They did change the carbs in 80. 80 & 81 bowls will swap but the 80 take the same drain plug as 78-79, 81 has diff. drain "screw" with down spout for tube hook up.
