Jardine 4 in1

Hi All
I'm having a problem with handle bars buzzing after installing Jardine 4 in 1 header. I checked to make sure pipes are not touching the frame anywhere. I also replaced the steel muffler hanger with a rubber one to vary little affect. Has any one else had this problem and if so how did you solve it ?

What exhaust did you have on before? Did you need to rejet? If you did rejet did you resync? I noticed a small vibration on the bars that went away after a sync.

This is a 1982 XJ1100J with 9000 actual miles. It had a factory exhaust that rotted apart. I did'nt need to rejet the bike it pulled good and hard with no cutting out or hesitation from 1,100 rpm all the way to 10,000 rpm in 1st., 2nd. and 3rd gear. I felt that was fast enough for me. Carbs. were sync and adjusted late last year. No adjustment was needed after the 4 in 1 was installed it ran the same as before.

I had a similar problem with the Mac 4-1 system on my 79 Special. I mounted the canister hanger to that rubber bushing to the rear of the rt. passenger peg. Wow what a terrible vibration. To fix this I found if I used a metal washer over the outside of this bracket, making the connection metal to metal, the vibration went away completely. First I figured the rubber would dampen the vibration but it turned out to be exactly the opposite. HTH.

My MAC 4 into 1 was also a metal to metal setup and the bike did not vibrate with that set up. Now on my restored 79 with the stock exhaust the bike does vibrate and that exhaust is completely rubber mounted.

The metal to metal fix worked like a charm. There is less buzzing in the bars now than it was stock.

Phil, thanks for the tip. I've got a Jardine 4 into 1 set that I am about to put on my XS1100SG so your info should be very helpful.

Hi, All
The solid metal to metal mounting of the exhaust has stopped the vibration / buzzing in the handle bars and moved it to the right foot peg. After about 20 miles my foot is numb and my knee feels like I have a bad cramp. Is there anyone else that has or had this problem ? Any idea on how to fix this?

No idea on the buzzing. I just installed a Jardine 4 into 1, black with chrome muffler and while the bike runs VERY well, I find the right turns get a little dicey when layed over...
Between a couple of scrapes at 60 or so in a turn and the looks of it, I'll be pulling it off and going back to stock this fall.
