      that cruiser hasn't started in over 10 years, possibly more

      if the pipes come in and the tank sealed ok - I was thinking RTV over the old rubber gasket of the fuel gauge -

      then I will press the start button Tuesday

      and hopefully there will be more "light"

        trouble shooting pictures

        still in trouble with the wiring as solo wires are shown

        working on rear mc - Getty nailed that one

        trying to seal tank where rubber looks old with rtv - is there anything better?

        two remaining questions:

        which position is on for the choke (see pic)?

        how do I rebuild and use that vista cruise which looks nifty but incomplete (see pic)?

        pipes came in today, took 27in from JCWhitney, look great but clearance will be an issue

        figured out today the bike has been idle since early 90s

          Greg,

          NO...you don't want to use RTV on the rubber gas gauge sending unit plate!

          Either get a gasket sealant that is designed for fuel/oil, or find a peice of neoprene that you can cut to shape to replace it with. RTV does not work well with FUEL!

              still in pain with the wiring

              got it running today after 10 sec of starter:

              As far as the wiring topic, defreezing the rear mc got my rear brake light to work.

              As I was working on the brakes - new pictures posted

              - I got to disconnect 2 identical white with 2 black stripes cable above the fuse box. I reconnected them without knowing if I reversed them, nor why since everything is color coded, these two are confusing on purpose

                Hi Greg,
                if two wires have the same coloration it's most likely they do the same thing so swapping them won't hurt.
                Are the pics of a triangular flanged aluminum casting full of rust and orange goo your brakes? If so a complete teardown, cleanout & rebuild is a must.
                As a safety-related thing, fix the brakes FIRST.

                  the crockpot looking container is rear mc #1, the busted seal is rear mc #2 which I purchased in order to rebuild

                  I posted these pix to give trouble shooting examples

                  I'll ask some more advice on how to redo the p-valve at a later time

                  thank you for your concern

                  restoration is a slow and quite expensive process, some steps ahead, some backwards, but it's getting better every day
