Progressive Fork Springs?

Hello,

I have had a blast putting over 400 miles on the Mad Mosquito since it's completion, but the suspension is about to shake out my fillings. I am happy with the rear springs but the front is super rough. Where do I buy Progressive fork springs? Their website says the local Harley dealer is the only place and I can't find any on eBay.

They talk about a spacer, because the Specials use longer tubes, but they(progressive) only make one size spring for the 1100's, and so you put in a ~4in spacer to take up the slack!

Hey Da-bubble,

I got to thinkin' a little. What weight fork oil did you use?

And do you have any air in the front forks for the preload?

If you are using a 10-15 wt fork oil, you might want to try some 5 wt first??

Springs

I've had the Progressives for several years now and I like the way the work.

I used whatever weight that Clymers called for. I think my problem is that I used solid spacers stacked on top of what progressive calls the "top out springs". This spacer sits over the dampening rod where the small holes allow oil to squirt thru. In the Progressive kit, they include two sets of top out springs for 1 or 2 inch lowering. The springs wouldn't interfere with the flow of oil like my spacers do. That coupled with a 300lb rider and 29 yr old springs and I think I can justify some progressives.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea what shipping would run? A guy on ebay has every kit under the sun listed including FJ and Vmax's. I thought about emailing to see if he can list one for an XS his are $85 shipped.

Just bought a set from Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse .Total cost including shipping was 66.79 . It even included a piece of PVC tube for the 3.5" spacers . Used a small tubing cutter to make a perfect score in the pvc and finished thru with a saw.

Progressive Fork Springs?

I read a tech article on what is wrong with the xs11. It said, "handling is bad and the xs11 needs a fork brace & heavier front springs". Because of this I cut the spacers to 4". I could barely get the fork caps to screw in [I couldn't get the forks screwed back together with the spacer cut any longer]. I used my cutting tool for auto body and other steel to cut the spacer. The ride is exceptional now and the front end stays up. I used 15w oil.
