Has anyone tried this before? Can you convert an SG to a G? Just bought a 1980 XS Eleven SG (for $100...so couldn't pass it up) but prefer the simple beauty of the Standard G. Is it possible to do a conversion?
Thank you.
Anything is possible. You can fit a lot of the "G" parts onto the "SG". The biggest thing is the footpeg mounts, I don't know if the standards will bolt up to the frame. I know the tank will fit, and if you can find the standard front forks and trees, they will also swap out.
Welcome to the site, and don't forget to go to the home page, XS11.com, and search the tech tips from there. You will probably find the answers to most of your questions.

To get a 'G' seat to fit properly, you will also have to relocate the Ignition Control box. This will require the rear inner fender, hinged fender mount and rear fender. There may be a problem with the SG's wiring harness being long enough to reach the new (rear) location.
