I have had experience with a few speedo's for the xs11's and I have found that they are all showing about 5 mph faster than actual speed. I have checked them with radar so I know they are fast and on a trip I checked the odo with the mileage posts and that is incorrect also. In 7 miles it was off .2 mi, probably register 105 mi for actual 100 mi. I wonder if anyone else has noticed the same thing? It was Mason that first brought it to my attention way back when.......

I've seen the same on ALL the XS1100 I've owned. Daily ride is on the second speedometer, and it seems a little farther off than the original. I think it's still within the 5% range.Ray Matteis

"Trippin' on speed..."
I can't recall if it was the Kawasaki tech line, or the Triumph guy... But I believe I was told once that legally, they can be off by 20%.
I don't know... I'd have to do the math on this one....
I'm sure that when they build bikes, they use the same speedo gear set up at the wheel... just change around the speedometer dials depending on where it's sold.. Kilometers vs Miles.
That might explain why bikes are usually off.
Who knows... The kilo ones may be right on.
Now then.. that bring up another question.
As my speedo has miles in big white letters on the outside and kilometers in little letters on the inside... do the european ones have big kilos on the outside and little miles on the inside?
Hello..?

Aussies...?

Kilo speedo....
I had a kilometer speedo on the '79, in fact it's still on it and it is also fast. Lots of those signs with radar around here and checking one's speedo is easy. You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

The Dragons speedo is spot on after you have held a given speed for several seconds. If you are accelerating or decelerating then it lags behind for a short time. I have lubed it a couple of times and it did not seem to change anything. As I usually have the GPS up and running I can use that if I am worried about the actual speed, if not I just go with the flow. The Old Tamer

If there are more than three bolts holding it on there, it is most likely a very important part!

Prom

My 5K7 (UK Sport model) reads 0 - 160 mph and doesn't have kph on it at all... I've seen UK Std XS11's (square clocks) with 0 - 160 mph on the outside of the scale and 0 - 220 (I think) kph in smaller text on the inside...
Alan
That don't count... It's not a UK or Euro model, is it..?
